Better Connected 2003 - A snapshot of all local authority websites'.
The Society of IT Management (SOCITM) has rated East Ayrshire Council's
website as one of the top 3 local authority sites in Scotland, in it's
annual Better Connected 2003 website survey.
The
following extract from the report relates to EAC's new site which went
live on December 23rd 2002.

of new features such as Web Cams, WebGIS, and Visual Impairment

1. TOP SCOTTISH SITES
The top three Scottish Council Sites are East Ayrshire, Dundee City,
and City of Edinburgh.
2. GOOD PRACTICE
EAC's Site has been rated as an example of good practice in the
areas of:
- Linking with other Government Sites - Joined-up Government
(1 of 2 in Scotland)
- Content Rating (only 1 in Scotland)
- Finding out information about further education courses
- Where to get free Internet access
- Online Job Opportunities
- Finding Information about Careers
- Finding information about disabled access to facilities
- Finding information about housing
- Searching for local support groups
- Library catalogue Online
- Finding information about carers
- Finding information about local public transport
- Finding information about mutual house exchanges
- Links to Business Advice centres
- Searching Site for information
- A-Z facilities
3. SITE CLASSIFICATION
EAC's overall Site classification is now 'C+' with an improvement
noted from 2002. There are no 'T' Sites in Scotland, only 10 in
the UK.
The classifications are:
T = Transactional Site
C+ = Content Plus
C = Content
P = Promotional
4. SCENARIOS
SOCITM analysed and rated the EAC website for a number of scenarios including:
- Person Leaving School - very good
- Person Caring for Elderly - very good
- Person Living in Social Housing - satisfactory
- Joined Up Services - on specific topics counted - 5 out of 5
- Access to the Council - rated 2 (range 0 to 3)
- Usability - rated 3 (range 0 to 3)
- Response to email enquiry - 1 day
- RNIB Assessment for Visually Impaired - 10 out of15
