Help with the garden
If
you cannot look after your garden due to age or disability and have no-one
to help, then you should apply to the Council for help. East Ayrshire
Council runs a scheme for tenants to help those who cannot manage to do
their own garden.
Will I Qualify?
You will if you are an East Ayrshire Council Tenant who is registered
disabled or an East Ayrshire Council Tenant who is 60 years or over and
has nobody younger and fitter living in your home who can help.
What do you mean younger and fitter?
Anyone over 16 and under 60 is living with
you and is not a registered carer for a member of the household would
be expected to do the gardening. Provided they are physically able to
do so.
Do I have to pay for the service?
Yes, unless you are on an income related
benefit. The charge per year is £30 but if you receive benefit then it
is free of charge.
How many times will you do my garden?
We will visit you up to 8 times a year to
cut the grass and twice to trim the hedges if you have them. The weather
can sometimes have an effect on the number of visits, so we cannot give
out dates in advance.
I have lots of flowerbeds in my garden;
will the Council do the weeding?
No. The scheme can only do the basic grass
cutting and hedge trimming so that we can provide the service to as many
tenants as possible.
Is there a Waiting List or can I get my
garden done right away?
If we get more applications than we can manage
then a waiting list is created in date order. The scheme starts in April
each year and finishes in October so if you apply outwith these months
nothing will happen until the growing season.
How do I apply?
You can pick up an application form at your local housing office. You
must fill in an application form so that we can assess whether or not
you are eligible for the scheme. We will then write to you to let you
know if you have been accepted on to the scheme.
