UPGRADING OF BATHROOM SANITARYWARE
NOTES FOR GUIDANCE
Some of your questions answered
When Will Work Start?
The contractor will issue notification 7 days before work is due to start.
What Works are Involved?
Works will include the replacement of existing fittings namely:
- bath (including proprietary side panels)
- wash-hand basin
- toilet/cistern
There will be no alterations to your existing central heating system
or electrical installations.
How Long will the Works take to Complete?
Your bathroom sanitaryware will be refitted by the end of the day although
any tiling involved may take a little longer.
It would be appreciated that any sealant at the bath area is left to
dry for approximately 24 hours. This however does not mean you will not
be able to your use bath but particular care and attention should be used
to ensure sealant does not become wet.
Will I be expected to Remove any Personal Belongings or Floor Coverings?
Yes, you will be responsible for removing all bathroom accessories eg.
mirrors, pictures, toothbrush and toilet roll holders.
You may wish to remove any curtains/shower curtains and screens.
The contractor will arrange for carpets to be uplifted and relaid, however,
if floor coverings are old, of poor quality, glued or nailed down, the
contractor cannot be held responsible for any damage caused.
If I have tiled my Bathroom, will my tiles be affected by these works?
Disturbance to tiles will be kept to a minimum. Any tiling options will
be discussed at March In Stage by East Ayrshire Council's Clerk of Works.
Do I have a Choice of Colour for the Sanitaryware?
No. The Council have restricted the colour of sanitaryware to white.
There will however be a limited choice of the colour for any ceramic
tiled splashbacks etc.
Will I have Hot and Cold Water while the work takes place?
Your water supply will be turned off for the installation period. You
will have to make alternative arrangements for drinking water/domestic
water and toilet provision during this time.
You may wish to fill up containers with water for use during this period.
Will the work affect my existing decoration?
Disturbance will be kept to a minimum, however it is likely that there
will be some disruption.
You will receive an allowance to the value of £40 after the work
is complete.
Can I have my own Shower Taps/Mixer unit re-fitted to the new Sanitaryware?
Any accessories fitted to existing sanitaryware that you wish to retain
will be refitted by the contractor but the responsibility for its future
operations and maintenance will remain with yourself.
If the accessories do not meet current regulations or British Standards
they will not be refitted.
Showers will be left undisturbed as far as possible, however, if disturbance
is necessary, the shower will be checked in terms of the applicable regulations
and only refitted if it complies in all respects.
You will be informed of any failure in terms of regulations in order
that you can take appropriate action to rectify but such action must be
at your own cost unless the shower was provided by the Social Work Department
to serve the needs of a resident disabled person.
