RE-ROOFING WORKS - NOTES FOR GUIDANCE
Some of Your Questions Answered
When will Work Start?
The Contractor will issue notification 7 days before work is due to start.
How Long will the Work take to Complete?
The work is very weather dependant and progress will depend on this.
If weather conditions are good then the work should take about a fortnight
to complete allowing a little longer for erecting and dismantling of scaffold.
What Will happen regarding the Scaffolding?
The scaffold will be erected by qualified scaffolders just prior to the
reroofing works starting.
The scaffold will fully comply with relevent Health and Safety Legislation.
It will be erected in such a way that it allows access to your home safely.
It wil be dismantled as soon as possible after the work is complete.
What about my Garden and Plants?
The Contractor has to protect your garden and plants from damage and
keep footpaths clear and undamaged. Scaffolding poles have soleplates
at the bottom to spread weight and minimise damage to your garden. The
Contractor will reinstate any damaged areas after the scaffolding is dismantled.
If you have any questions about your garden or plants, etc. speak to the
Clerk of Works or phone Customer Support. (See back page of leaflet for
telephone numbers).
Will I need to pack away any Ornaments, Pictures, Breakables etc?
Yes. Although the Contractor will be working outside it will do no harm
to take down hanging items like pictures and also
remove ornaments from window sills. All breakables should be cleared and
packed away to prevent accidental damage. If you have any questions, speak
to the Clerk of Works or phone our Customer Support Section.
Will the Contractor Clean and Clear up?
Yes. He must keep footpaths clean and clear of debris. He will also remove
debris to builder's skips during the course of the day and these skips
will be removed if they are the open top type. Covered lockable skips
can stay overnight as long as they are sensibly situated and do not cause
an obstruction.
If you see the contractor throw debris from the roof to the skip, then
please report this to the Clerk of Works or alternatively contact the
Customer Support unit (telephone number and office hours overleaf)
What about Security to my Home?
The scaffold will be in place for the minimum period necessary to complete
the works. All easy means of gaining access to the scaffold will be removed
each evening and returned in the morning. There will be warning notices
prominently displayed on the scaffolding for the duration of the works.
If you see someone on the scaffold after working hours do not hesitate
to call the Police.
Will my Home be Wind and Watertight during the Works?
Yes. The Contractor will ensure that as one section of the roof is stripped
of existing tiles, it will be suitably covered to prevent wind or water
ingress. The Contractor's main aim is to have the roof re-tiled in the
shortest time allowable, weather permitting.
Should I Inform my Insurance Company?
Yes, you must contact your own insurance company and inform them that
scaffold is being erected, as failure to do so may invalidate your insurance
cover.
Will I be able to use my Satellite System during this time?
You may experience some interference to your TV picture during this time.
If this happens it will be advisable to contact your Service Provider.
If you require any further assistance in connection with your upgrade
please do not hesitate to contact East Ayrshire Council's Customer Support
Section on 01563 555420.
