APPLYING FOR HOUSING

East Ayrshire Council owns about 15,613 houses and each year roughly 1700 properties are allocated to people on the waiting list. To make sure that the waiting list is operated quickly and fairly we have an Allocations Policy in place to match the people who want houses with the houses that become empty.

How Do I Apply for A Council House?

Just fill in a Housing Application Form. This asks for information about the type of house you want. Forms are available at all local housing offices or if you prefer we can send you one in the post. Once your form is complete, return it to your nearest local housing office and your application will be assessed.

What Information Do You Need?

Basically we need to know about your current housing circumstances and also what area and type of house you want. We also need to know about the people in your household and if anyone has special needs. The more information we have about your needs the easier it will be to give your application the right amount of points.

How Do We Decide Who Gets A House?

We have a policy that allows us to give points for certain circumstances. So if you have a high need you will get a greater number of points. If you have very few needs then you will receive fewer points. This means that every application is individually assessed and those with the highest points level go to the top of the list.

How Do I Find Out More?

Give your Housing Officer a call or drop in at your local housing office. He or she will explain how your points are assessed and help you decide which areas you want to apply for. Your Housing Officer may occasionally call at your home to check you application details are up-to-date.

Where Else Can I Apply for a House?

There are several Housing Associations who provide housing for rent in East Ayrshire. Some even offer houses to buy at a lower cost and some on a shared ownership basis.
