THE SUPPORTING PEOPLE PROGRAMME

The Supporting People Programme is a U.K wide initiative.
From April 2003, local authorities are assuming responsibility for funding, planning and co-ordinating all forms of supported accommodation in their areas. The aim is to improve the range and quality of support available to people who need support to enable them to live independently.

The Scottish Executive is determined to deploy public resources effectively to meet the increasing needs of an ageing population and the requirements of Community Care Planning.

In East Ayrshire the Head of Homes, Chris McAleavey, is leading the implementation of Supporting People. A team of staff from Housing, Social Work, Information Technology and Finance are working on all aspects of the plan, with additional expertise being brought in from other departments as required.

We are confident that users and providers of support will see no adverse changes in their service when we 'go live' in April 2003. Thereafter, changes in services will only happen after a thorough review process and consultation with service users and providers.
