Social
Care & Health
Social Services are provided through three frontline service areas; Children and Families, Criminal Justice and Community Care. These services are supported by Performance and Resources.
Children & Families & Criminal Justice
Children and Families
The Children (Scotland) Act 1995 sets out duties and powers available to local authorities to support children and their families
There are 3 key principles to which we adhere:
the welfare of the child is of greatest importance
all legal involvement with children and families must be justified
the child should have a voice in decision making.
In accordance with the Act; Social Services has a key role in providing support, advice and a range of services to assist children and their parents to ensure that young people can live safely with their families in their local communities whenever possible.
Criminal Justice
Legislation, principally the Social Work ( Scotland ) Act 1968 and the Criminal Procedure (Scotland) Act 1995 , places a duty on Scottish local authorities to provide social work services in the criminal justice system, within the South West Scotland Criminal Partnership.
Community Care
East Ayrshire Council has a legal duty to provide community care services to vulnerable adults and older people subject to an assessment of need.
The main aim of community care is to help people remain at home for as long as it is safe and reasonable to do so or where this is not possible, to make sure you are cared for in a homely environment.
Performance & Resources
Frontline Social Services are supported by Performance and Resources which provides input to a wider range of corporate issues and priorities within the Council.
