Advocacy Group
Advocacy
is the idea that at certain times a person may need help to have a say in determining
decisions. Other areas of the Community benefit from advocacy services; however
for young people (11 - 18 years) access to this is limited. Youth Advocacy Group
believe all young people should have access to independent advocacy should they
wish it.
Youth Advocacy Group is a charitable organisation which was
formally constituted in January 2004. A voluntary Managing Group was elected to
take the Group forward which now consists of a Project Co-ordinator/Trainer, an
Office Administrator, Volunteer Advocates and paid Crisis Advocates. To date we
have had a number of requests from various sources for advocacy. We are based
at 28/30 Grange Street, Kilmarnock. We can be usefull in many areas, some
examples are when a young person is involved with dealing with Children's Panels,
Social Workers or The Police, in fact, any situation where a young person feels
they are not being listened to.
