Ayrshire Domestic Abuse Forum brings together all the agencies providing services
to women, children and young people in East Ayrshire. (Forum

The Forum was established in response to the National
Strategy to Address Domestic Abuse in Scotland (2000).
East Ayrshire Domestic Abuse Forum have adopted the definition of domestic abuse contained
in the National Strategy to Address Domestic Abuse in Scotland:
'Domestic abuse (as gender based abuse), can be perpetrated by partners or ex-partners and
can include physical abuse (assault and physical attack involving a range of behaviour),
sexual abuse (acts which degrade and humiliate women and are perpetrated against
their will, including rape) and mental and emotional abuse (such as threats, verbal
abuse, racial abuse, withholding money and other types of controlling behaviour such as isolation from family and friends).'

In
line with the national focus, the work of East Ayrshire Domestic Abuse Forum is
guided by three main principles:
Protection: through appropriate legal protection for women or children
who experience domestic abuse
Prevention
of domestic abuse through education and awareness raising
Provision
of support services for women, children and young people experiencing
domestic abuse
