| White Ribbon Day events in East Ayrshire
Friday 25th November 2005
East Ayrshire Women's Forum came up with a novel approach to draw public attention to White Ribbon Day, the International Day Against Violence Against Women.
Barr Environmental Ltd, East Ayrshire Council's waste composting and disposal contractor, purchased quantities of white ribbons and safety pins. These materials were then made into white ribbon bows by some of the inmates at Kilmarnock Prison. The bows were made available to members of the public through Council offices and libraries and from Kilmarnock and Cumnock Women's Aid and Yipworld.com.
Anyone taking a white ribbon bow was invited to make a donation to the project and all proceeds were distributed to appropriate women's groups in East Ayrshire.
