Team The Community Youth Support Team is a specialist team within the
Department of Educational & Social Services which provides a range of community
based supports to vulnerable and socially isolated children and young people within
East Ayrshire, aged between 8 and 16 years. The Team aims to: ...support
vulnerable and socially isolated young people known to the Department within their
own families and communities wherever possible. ...promote the socialisation
and personal development of young people to enable them to make informed choices
in their lives, and advocate on their behalf, when appropriate. ...deliver
services in line with Council policy and inform / influence practice developments
where appropriate. The Team provides the following : Befriending
..... Regular individual support from a volunteer befriender to young people who
are not able to be supported through groupwork. Groupwork .....
Groupwork support focused intervention e.g. social skills, problem solving, young
men's issues, young women's issues, offending behaviour, school problems, family
relationships, self confidence and self esteem. Intensive Support .....
Individual time-limited support to young people in crisis to help stabilise their
situation within their family and community, and to prevent inappropriate acomodation. Use
of volunteers We are always keen to recruit volunteers from local communities,
to work as befrienders or support groupwork staff. Induction training is provided,
and expenses are paid.
