Kilmarnock Academy is a comprehensive school serving students aged
12 - 18. The school has a long and illustrious history, and former
pupils include two Nobel prize winners - Alexander Fleming, who
discovered penicillin, and John Boyd Orr, who made an enormous contribution
to public health with his work on diet and nutrition.
The school is located in the centre of Kilmarnock, on a hill above
the main commercial area. Students attend the school from its three
associated primary schools in the town, and a number come from slightly
further afield.
Kilmarnock Academy aims to deliver a high quality curriculum to
suit the needs of all students, and offers a wide selection of extra-curricular
activities from dance to debating, chess to football. As a pilot
New Community School the academy draws on support from many agencies
to provide an educational programme which caters for all.
This is a school which is proud of its history and equally proud
of its present and future.
