Adult Learners Week 17th - 23rd May
Adult Learners Week is a National event held annually and is designed to:
- Celebrate the involvement of Adult Learners
- Encourage people to take up new learning opportunities
- Increase access to information, advice and guidance on wider learning opportunities
The Community Learning & Development Service is pleased to encourage participation in Adult Learners Week and has arranged taster sessions and workshops throughout the week.
The benefits of participating in learning are many, including acquiring new skills and qualifications, improved health, increased participation in community activities, this in turn is beneficial to a wider community.
Learning is about realising your potential, increasing your confidence and improving the quality of your life.
Activities during Adult Learners Week are free, please come along to any of the opportunities detailed.
17th—23rd May
Multi Cultural Dialogue and Creativity Art Exhibition
Gateway Centre, Kilmarnock, Mon-Fri 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Art exhibition displaying work that has taken place with various Youth Literacies Groups (EASY, Rathbone Princes Trust) to explore the theme of Adult Learners’ Week.
Saturday 17th May
New Farm Loch @ 40 Open Day
Community Learning and Development and New Farm Loch Community Association are hosting an adult learners event in:-
New Farm Loch Community Centre 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
An opportunity to find out about learning opportunities available and try out some taster sessions. Tasters include:
- Climbing Wall
- Jewellery Making
- Arts & Crafts
- Sign Language
- Storytelling Workshops
- Acupuncture
- Radio Session
- Information on the Essential Skills Project will be available.
Monday 19th May
Asian Women’s Craft Day
North West Area Centre 10:00 - 12 noon
Western Road, Kilmarnock
An opportunity for Women to come together and try various crafts.
Basic Cookery
Patna Primary School 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
Why not come along and learn how to make a pot of homemade soup. Participants will be encouraged to come to a basic cookery course for 6 weeks where they will decide which dishes will be on the menu.
Computing Basics - Taster Session
New Cumnock 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
A taster session which will give participants a tour of the features within Windows XP operating system.
Drop-in Computer Evening
Bellsbank Community Wing 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
An informal evening to view the equipment and courses available within the Bellsbank Learning Centre. Participants will also have the opportunity to have some hands on experience with the equipment and software.
Introduction to Computing - Taster Session
Cumnock Library 2:00 - 4:00p.m.
Learn the basic skills for the effective use of your computer.
My Country ESOL Learner’s activities
Gateway ESOL Class, Kilmarnock, 10:00 - 12 noon
Learner centred activity featuring displays on ESOL learner’s countries, learner maps, Arabic, Urdu and Chinese script, culture, music and customs. Refreshments will be available.
Tuesday 20th May
Adult Open Day
North West Learning Centre 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Onthank Community Centre 1:30 - 4:30 p.m.
Highlighting learning opportunities. Learning opportunities will be supported by guidance from CLAD and Partner Agencies.
Comic Life Story Telling Workshop
Gateway Centre, Kilmarnock 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Aimed at 16-25 year olds with a learning disability who will be working on stories in the build up to this week. During the workshop a graphic comic will be made from their story.
Computing for the Terrified - Taster Session
Muirkirk 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.
This session will give participants a basic understanding of how to use a computer.
Creative Writing
Galston Community Education Centre 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.
First of a 6 week course to explore basics of Creative Writing

Search & Develop Your Family Tree
