EAST AYRSHIRE COUNCIL'S SECOND LOCAL TRANSPORT STRATEGY
Consultation on the Second Local Transport Strategy

TELL US WHAT YOU THINK . . .
East Ayrshire Council has officially launched the consultation for the
Draft Local Transport Strategy (LTS) 2008 - 2013. The consultation period
runs for six weeks, closing on 27th June 2008.
The draft LTS sets out the Transport Vision and Objectives of the Council
and provides a five-year Action Plan for meeting local challenges and
needs. When approved, this new document will replace the existing LTS
which was produced in 2001.
The Council is now seeking views on this document, and feedback will
be considered in finalising the strategy. The draft strategy is available
for inspection at public libraries, community centres and Council Offices
on Greenholm Street (Kilmarnock).
The vision of the LTS is:
"To promote sustainable transport, accessibility and opportunities
to maximise the economic potential of East Ayrshire and to improve the
quality of life and safety of all its residents."
In Autumn 2006, East Ayrshire Council consulted with key internal and
external stakeholders to assist in the identification of issues, problems
and opportunities relating to East Ayrshire's transportation network.
Key themes that arose during the consultations related to:
Road Safety Measures;
Bypasses for Communities on Busy Through Routes;
Transfer of Freight to Rail;
Gritting and Snow Clearing; and
Improved Facilities for Pedestrians and Other Vulnerable Road Users.
The draft documents can be found from the links on the right hand side of this page.
