ROAD AND STREET LIGHTING
Street lighting plays a major role in the community, it enhances public
safety, encourages people to use the streets at night and improves the
look of an area. The Roads and Transportation Division of the Council’s
Development Services Department is responsible for maintaining in good
working order all street lighting associated with the public highways.
This involves regular inspection, preventative (planned) maintenance and
the repair of faults identified from the Council's own inspection or from
information received from members of the public.
SERVICE DELIVERY
Road and street maintenance is currently undertaken 'In house' by the
Roads & Transportation Division's Lighting Maintenance Unit.
The Lighting Section within the Council’s Roads and Transportation Division
is responsible for the night time inspections for dark lamps, designing
new lighting schemes, preparation of contract tenders, monitoring of the
performance of contractors and liaison with the public, Councillors, developers
and public utilities on all aspects of street lighting.
