BUILDING STANDARDS ADVICE NOTES
There are exemptions for some types of buildings and fixtures in certain
circumstances, but you are strongly advised to contact the Building Standards
Service to confirm the status of your proposals before assuming an exemption.
Your builder or contractor, however well meaning, may not be up-to-date
with the current legislation and a simple phone call could prevent problems
later.

Inclusive Design Handbook
This design guide aims to provide additional information and guidance in terms of inclusive design. An inclusive environment is one which can be accessed and used by everyone, irrespective of their age, ability or gender. In order to achieve this, designers need to be aware of people's differing abilities and widen the user group they design for. The handbook does not cover everything or have all the answers but aims to provoke designers into thinking about all of the population when designing facilities. To access the e-book entitled Inclusive Design Handbook please use the following link where you can view as an e-book or save it as a pdf file. Should you wish a hard copy of the document please contact Building Standards on 01563 576781, 576778 or 553512.
