The Planning & Economic Development Division of the Council is a key player in important projects and promotes, stimulates and encourages all types of development required to meet the needs and aspirations of the people of East Ayrshire.

The Planning & Economic Development Division comprises of the following Sections and Functions:

Development Management process and advise on the need for planning and other permissions and monitor and resolve planning enforcement issues.

Building Standards is responsible for control of any building work to ensure it is designed and constructed to the national Building Regulations to ensure the health & safety of all users.

Development Planning & Regeneration is responsible for producing the East Ayrshire Local Plan & Ayrshire Structure Plan, as well as co-ordinating & implementing environmental & townscape improvements.

Economic Development undertakes the ongoing review of the local and national economic context and from that develops the strategy within which the Council delivers targeted assistance to support the growth and development of economic activity and business within East Ayrshire. This is achieved through the provision of advice and funding, the development and operation of training projects and accessing of support and funding available through other agencies including Scottish Enterprise, Business Gateway and the Scottish Executive.
