POOP SCOOP WEEK 2010

Fri, 30 Jul 2010

X normally marks the spot but at an awareness raising event held by the Council’s Corporate Enforcement Unit (CEU) at the Howard Park – a flag marked the poop!

The CEU was joined by Councillor Jim Todd at this unusual event to mark National Poop Scoop Week 2010 and between them they planted 79 flags indicating the extent of dog fouling throughout the park.

Councillor Todd, Spokesperson for Improving Community Safety said: “I am actually quite shocked that we found so much dog waste within Howard Park. The number of flags highlighted the extent of the problem we face from irresponsible dog owners. Our parks should be areas that we can all enjoy without the problem of dog waste. The Corporate Enforcement Unit carries out ongoing awareness raising activities and encourages people to pick up after their dogs. However please be aware that anyone caught not picking up after their dog will receive a fine or be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.

“Dog fouling is a real problem throughout Scotland, not just East Ayrshire, but we are tackling it. Together we can improve our environment – making East Ayrshire a better place to live, work and play!”

Anyone wishing to report dog fouling incidents or a dog fouler should contact Environmental Health on 01563 554022.
