Doors flew open all over Ayrshire recently so that people could visit buildings they might not have seen before, and do so free of charge.
Doors Open Day, organised by Kyle and Carrick Civic Society, was the 16th annual event to be held which places a focus on our built heritage of fine buildings. East Ayrshire Council helped out by providing Kyle and Carrick Civic Society with funding to produce leaflets for the day which provided information on which buildings would be open for viewing. In East Ayrshire, the Palace Theatre, Rowallan Old Castle, Laigh West High Kirk, Kilmarnock Football Club and the Sheriff Court House were among the buildings on show on the day.
Councillor George Smith, Vice Chair of the Development Services Committee, presented the cheque to Michael Hitchon, President of the Society, saying: “The Council was pleased to be able to help out with what is now a well-established annual event and we were delighted to hear that the day was a great success, with even the sun shining for most of the day!”
