East Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership is backing a national campaign called ICE (In Case of Emergency) which was initiated by the East Anglian Ambulance Service. The campaign is also being supported by Falklands’ war hero Simon Weston in association with Vodafone’s Annual Life Savers’ Award.
The idea of the campaign is that you store the word ‘ICE’ in your mobile phone’s address book, and against it enter the telephone number of the person you want to be contacted in case of an emergency. It's as simple as that, and for more than one emergency contact number you can use ICE1, ICE2, ICE3 and so forth.
In an emergency situation paramedics and police will then be able to find out who your next of kin are and be able to contact them quickly and easily.
Councillor Jim O’Neill, Chair of the Community Safety Forum said: “This is such a simple idea and is so easy to do, I would encourage everyone with a mobile phone to do it - it really could help in an emergency situation and it may even save your life.”
