ARTS

The Scottish Arts Council makes
grants to arts projects that:
-
support the highest artistic
achievement, and make these available to as many people as possible;

encourage new work and
new audiences;
-
bring challenging art
to all sections of the community;

and celebrate the diversity
of cultures.

HERITAGE

The Heritage Lottery Fund
gives grants to protect and open up the heritage, by supporting projects
that provide lasting improvements to the quality of life for people in
the United Kingdom.
Applications can be accepted
from non-profit distributing organisations for projects that relate to
the following parts of our local, regional and national heritage:

important natural habitats
and countryside;
-
historic urban green spaces,
including parks;
-
archaeological projects;
-
historic buildings and
sites;
-
museum collections;
-
historic library collections
and archives;
-
and industrial, transport
and maritime heritage.
Works or purchases aimed at
preserving and improving access to things of importance to the heritage,
or activities aimed at increasing understanding and enjoyment of the heritage,
are eligible for support.

People who have good ideas
for community projects can apply for small Lottery grants of around £2,000
.

CHARITIES AND COMMUNITY
GROUPS

The Community Fund awards grants that aim to help those at greatest disadvantage
in society and to improve the quality of life in the community. Since
1995 the Community Fund has awarded more than £1.8 billion to more
than 38,000 projects.

EDUCATION, HEALTH &
ENVIRONMENT

The New Opportunities Fund
was created to distribute grants to education, health and environment
projects across the UK. By working in partnership with other organisations,
including other Lottery Distributors, the New Opportunities Fund supports
sustainable projects that will:

Improve the quality of
life for people throughout the UK;
-
Address the needs of those
who are most disadvantaged in society;
-
Encourage community participation;
Complement relevant local and national strategies and programmes.
Current grant programmes include:

healthy living centres;
-
living with cancer;
-
out of school hours childcare
and learning;
-
ICT training for teachers,
school librarians and public librarians;
-
community access to lifelong
learning;
-
digitisation of learning
materials;
-
and green spaces and sustainable
communities.

SPORTS

National Lottery awards to
sport supports thousands of projects throughout the UK in areas such as
sports facilities, youth development, coaching, sporting events and althlete
support.
Funding is distributed by sportscotland who are responsible for funding
in their Scotland and operate different funding programmes. Grants are
available for projects such as: building new or upgraded sports facilities
(eg tennis courts, changing rooms, club houses); purchasing major items
of equipment (eg gliders, boats, gymnastics equipment); improving school
sport; increasing coaching and competition opportunities; providing support
for top athletes representing their respective countries.

AWARDS FOR ALL
The
main aim of the programme is to fund projects which involve people in
their community; bringing them together to enjoy arts, sports, heritage
and other community activities. If your group has an annual income under
£20,000 and you need between £500 and £5,000 then
Awards for All may be for you. The New Opportunites Fund can consider
applications from organisations whose income is more than £20,000
per year, but only for projects involving health, education and the environment.
Sometimes quite small sums of money can have a big impact.

Royal
Incorporation of Architects in Scotland (RIAS) -
MILLENNIUM AWARDS
125 Awards between £2,000-£4,000
to individuals resident in Scotland, aged 18 years and above without a
professional qualification relating to the natural or built environment,
to undertake a project that will have both a practical outcome as well
as enabling them to make an informed personal assessment of the qualities
of their environs and record this for the community.
