East Ayrshire Childrens
Panel
EXPENSES TO MEMBERS
It is recognised that many panel members undertake
a certain sacrifice in the voluntary giving of their time on panel duty.
While payments of expenses cannot be considered as adequate recompense,
provision is made for payment of certain expenses to members. These include
the cost of travelling, and over certain minimum periods, subsistence
allowance. A claim may also be made for financial loss of wages, which
normally related to the period spent away from employment. Shift workers,
however, are entitled to an increased claim in respect of earnings lost
over a longer period. Financial loss claimed must be actual loss, not
potential loss. There are maximum amounts which may be claimed.
The CPAC is anxious that all members should be encouraged to claim expenses
to which they are entitled. Every effort is made to settle expenses within
a short period of the claim form being received. Expenses should be submitted
every month.
Absence from employment
Panel members may require time off work to attend hearings. Generally,
such time is to be of a reasonable frequency. Employers are not required
to grant time off with pay. What is 'reasonable' is determined by the
employer.
