Active Maps
Our website now includes ‘active’ maps capability. Rather than just viewing
a map as a flat image we can link into our Geographic Information System
(GIS) to offer more interactive mapping tools. The active maps allow you
to pan and zoom around the area or to search for a map based on a location
such as a postcode. Please note that the active maps take longer to download
than flat images.
You also have the ability to see more facilities marked on the map. For
example you can see where all the council local offices are, or the libraries,
schools, community centres etc. Each map will have the ability to turn
on and turn off the display of each facility type, or ‘layer’. Depending
on which area of our site you are browsing, different layers will be available.
Some of the active maps will let you see the details for facilities and
points of interest. For example, if you choose to show Planning Applications
you will be able to click on one of the icons on the map to see further
details on that planning application.
We will be continuing to put the active map option onto many areas of
the site as an alternative to the flat maps. To see an example, see the
directions to our HQ from the link on the website homepage.
