SAFER STREETS INITIATIVE
As part of its commitment to a safer Scotland the Scottish
Executive made £600,000 available throughout Scotland to make our
streets safer at the weekend. East Ayrshire received £40000 for
Kilmarnock Town Centre and provided additional police and the mobile police
unit as well as taxi marshals every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening
over the festive period and every Friday and Saturday until 31st March
2007.
The Community Safety Partnership agreed that this was an
excellent initiative and an evaluation
proved to be very positive. A further application for funding has been
made to extend the scheme until 31st March 2008.
