NAMING CEREMONIES
Q - What is a Naming Ceremony?
A - A Naming Ceremony is a very special way of celebrating the
birth of your child as well as welcoming the new arrival into the family
and the wider community. It is also an opportunity to declare, before
family and friends, your promise to be as good a parent as you can and
for adult friends or relatives to confirm their special relationship with
your child. It's a unique occasion for everyone to feel involved as they
pledge their love and support for your child's future development.
Q - What happens at the Ceremony?
A - The Naming Ceremony has six essential sections: Introduction
and Welcome; Short Reading; Formal Naming of the Child(ren); Parents Promises;
Promises by Supporting Adults and Closing Words. There are many ways to
make your child's Ceremony a very personal and unique event.
Q - Does the Ceremony have any legal status?
A - No, the Ceremony is simply something that you as parents choose
to do as a public gesture of love and commitment to your child. Unlike
a Birth Certificate which is a compulsory legal document, the Record of
the Ceremony cannot be used as proof of identification. The Ceremony is
not legally binding on those who take part in it.
Q - How long does the Ceremony last?
A - The Ceremony usually lasts about 15 minutes but can be up
to 30 minutes if more readings and other options are included.
Q - Where can the Ceremony take place?
A - The Ceremony can take place in any Registration
Office or at any of our Approved
Venues.
Q - How much does the Ceremony cost?
A - The fee for the Ceremony depends
on the day and place of the ceremony, however an initial non-returnable
deposit of £55 is required to make a booking, but this will be deducted
from the total cost of the Ceremony.
Q - Who should I contact for further information?
A - Please contact Kilmarnock
Registration Office for further information or to make a booking.
Q - Do I need an appointment if I want to come into the office and
book the Ceremony ?
A - Yes, all Registration Offices in East Ayrshire operate
an appointment system.
