COMMITMENT CEREMONIES
Q - What is a Commitment Ceremony?
A - A Commitment Ceremony is a dignified Ceremony for adult couples
who wish to make a public declaration of life-long commitment, love and
dedication. The occasion can be shared with family and friends or, if
you prefer, the Ceremony can be held in private without guests.
Q - What happens at the Ceremony?
A - Every Commitment Ceremony is unique. Working within the Ceremony
framework, couples create their own unique celebration by selecting words,
poems and readings that hold a special meaning for them.
Q - Does the Ceremony have any legal status?
A - No, the Ceremony is simply something that you and your partner
choose to do as a public gesture of love and commitment to each other.
Unlike a religious or civil marriage a commitment Ceremony or any document
issued as part of the Ceremony has no legal status and cannot be used
to establish legal rights.
Q - How long does the Ceremony last?
A - The Ceremony usually lasts about 15 minutes but can be up
to 30 minutes if more readings and other options are included.
Q - Where can the Ceremony take place?
A - The Ceremony can take place in any Registration
Office or at any of our Approved
Venues.
Q - How much does the Ceremony cost?
A - The fee of the Ceremony depends
on the day and place of the Ceremony, however an initial non-returnable
deposit of £50 is required to make a booking, but this will be deducted
from the total cost of the Ceremony.
Q - Who should I contact for further information?
A - Please contact Kilmarnock
Registration Office for further information or to make a booking.
Q - Do I need an appointment if I want to come into the office and
book the Ceremony ?
A - Yes, all Registration Offices in East Ayrshire operate
an appointment system.
