Neighbourhood Services
Your Christmas and New Year Bin Service
Recycle Your Christmas tree!
The Council will uplift your Christmas tree free of charge as part of your brown bin collection. Please put your tree beside your brown bin or at your collection point on your first brown collection day in January. Trees must be presented tied in neat manageable bundles of approximately 4 feet in length.
Just make sure you remove all decorations and stands from your tree before presenting it for collection!
Borrow a box
You may find you have more cans, bottles and jars for recycling over the festive period. To help you recycle this extra waste, the Council are running a “Borrow a Box” service. Please come to Cleansing Services at Western Road Kilmarnock, or Council Offices, Lugar to pick up your box.
You will be asked for your contact details and to return the box by Monday 31st January.
Blue sacks available to recycle extra paper & cardboard
You will probably accumulate more paper and cardboard than normal over the Christmas and New Year period. To allow you to recycle as much of these materials as possible, you will be able to present Council issued Blue sacks beside your Blue Bins on your normal paper collection day.
Alternatively, if you fill a cardboard box with paper/cardboard (no plastics) and present beside your Blue bin, then this will also be uplifted.
You can collect these bags free of charge from Cleansing Services offices at Western Road Kilmarnock and Cleansing offices at Lugar.
Side waste collections
The Council is keen to recycle as much of your household waste as possible and has put in place the “Borrow a Box” service for surplus cans and glass and made Blue recycling sacks available for extra paper and cardboard waste.
However, if you still find you have extra waste for your household residual bin, the Council will uplift up to 6 black bags of side waste on your two residual collections following Christmas Day.
