Recycling News
With around 50,000 households now participating in the Kerbside Recycling Service, East Ayrshire's recycling rate has trebled over the past twelve months! Our recycling rate is now around the 20% mark and still climbing. By the end of 2005 the final 3,000 households will be recycling from home and the 2006 target of 25% will be achievable.
Latest figures show that over 8000 tonnes of material has been collected for recycling and the Council would like to say a huge thank you to all residents who participate!
The final implementation is called Phase 6. Households in Fenwick, Dunlop, Lugton, Waterside and outlying rural properties across the area will get their recycling containers in September this year, with the first recycling collections taking place in October.
But happens next? Kerbside Recycling is only one part of a major campaign to get us to reduce, reuse and recycle as much of our waste as possible. Over the coming months East Ayrshire Council will be embarking on several new projects including the introduction of local plastic recycling banks and providing more recycling facilities in schools.
