Working with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), the Ayrshire, Dumfies & Galloway Waste Strategy Area Group produced plans to tackle various issues of waste management at a local level. The Ayrshire, Dumfries & Galloway Area Waste Plan was therefore introduced taking into consideration the opinions of local businesses, people and organisations.
The Scottish Executive has set national targets to increase the amount of waste collected by local authorities which is recycled or sent for composting, bringing Scotland in line with European Union landfill reduction targets by 2010, 2013 and 2020.
