A

Aluminium cans

-these can be put in to your Black Kerbside Box for recycling. If you have extra cans you can take them to your nearest Recycling Centre or Local Recycling Point.


Aerosol cans
-
Please put these in to your Household Residual Waste Bin.

B

Bags
-reuse all your carrier bags for carrying shopping or purchase some heavy reusable bags at your supermarket. Some supermarkets will accept bags back for recycling within the store. Plastic bags cannot be put into any of your household recycling bins.

Books - takes these to your nearest Recycling Centre or give them to your nearest charity shop to help raise funds for good causes.

Batteries
-recycle car batteries at East Ayrshire Councils Recycling Centres. Household batteries - try and purchase re-chargeable batteries wherever possible.

Bric-a- brac
-take all bric-a- bac to your nearest charity shop who will resell your items and raise money for their charities particular needs. Resell at a car boot sale.

Bottles (glass)
-glass bottles can be put in to your Black Kerbside Box for recycling. You can also take them to your Local Recycling Points.

Bottles (plastic)
-plastic bottles made from HDPE plastic (e.g. milk containers with a cloudy appearance) and PET plastic (e.g. clear juice bottles) can be taken to your nearest Recycling Centre or Local Recycling Point . No other kind of plastic is accepted at present. Please put all other plastics in to your Household Residual Waste Bin .

Bicycles
-resell using the free ads in the local press or place within the scrap metal skips at East Ayrshire Councils Recycling Centres.

Bath Tub
-please phone for a Special Uplift. There is a small charge for this service.

C

Cans
-food and drink cans can be put in your Black Kerbside Box for recycling.You may wish to rinse out any food residue from your cans as they may attract an odour over the two week collection period.
-Alternatively you can take all cans to your Local Recycling Point or Recycling Centre.
 
Cookers

-all redundant white goods should be recycled. Take these to your nearest Recycling Centre or use the Councils Special Uplift service. There may be a small charge for this service.

Clothes
-take these to your nearest Recycling Centre or give them to your nearest charity shop to help raise funds for good causes.
 
Cardboard packaging

-cardboard packaging can be put in to your Blue Bin for recycling. If you have extra cardboard this can be taken to your nearest Recycling Centre or Local Recycling Point.
 
Computers

-trade in against a new product or pass on to those in need. CYRCIT renovates and recycles donated computer equipment. Phone 01292610524.
-DonateAPC is particularly suited to people with only one or two items to donate. All items are passed to not-for-profit organisations and UK charities. Visit www.donateapc.org.uk for further information.
-Access North Ayr will also take old computers for recycling. Contact them on 01292 294322.

-computer equipment, with the exception of printers and laptops, can be taken to your nearest Recycling Centre.

Carpets
-carpets can be taken to your nearest Recycling Centre. Alternatively contact the Council for a Special Uplift. There may be a small charge for this service.

Cartons
-food and drinks cartons, such as breakfast juice and milk cartons can be taken to your nearest Recycling Centre.

Cat Litter
-please dispose of cat litter by placing it in to your Household Residual Waste Bin .

Cellophane
-please place cellophane in to your Household Residual Waste Bin .

Christmas Tree
-please take your (real) tree to your nearest Recycling Centre and place in to the garden waste recycling container. Trees may also be accepted with your brown bin. All trees must be cut to 4 foot or less in length.

Cooking Oil
-used cooking oil can be exchanged for travel vouchers as part of the Stagocaoch Bio Bus scheme at the Western Road Recycling Centre.

Cutlery
-please take any usable cutlery to your nearest charity shop, otherwise please dipose of in your Household Residual Waste Bin.

Cylinders (Butane)
-butane cylinders can be taken to your nearest Recycling Centre.

Electrical Goods

-electrical goods which contain large amounts of metals and have become redundant should be recycled. Take these to your nearest Council Recycling Centre .

Fridge/Freezers
-all redundant white goods should be recycled. Takes these to your nearest Recycling Centre or use the Councils Special Uplift service.

Food Waste
-for advice on how to minimise food waste, and obtain recipe ideas, practical tips on how to store any leftovers and how to plan before you shop, visit www.wasteawarelovefood.org.uk

Furniture
-reuse furniture by contacting a redistribution scheme, who will pass on furniture of all kinds to those in need. If you have some good furniture that you would like to be used again contact (Kilmarnock Areas) KLFRS (01563 573363) or (Cumnock Areas) Cumnock and Doon (01292 550525). Unusable wooden furniture can be placed within the wood recycling skips at East Ayrshire Councils Recycling Centres.

Garden waste

-your Brown Bin can be used to recycle general green garden waste. Grass cuttings, prunings, weeds, flowers, and hedge clippings can all be put into your Brown Bin.
- you can also recycle garden waste at the Council's Recycling Centres .You can also request a home composter from the Council and reuse the compost created in your own garden. See the Special Offer in the Composting section.

Garden Chemicals
-please contact Cleansing Sevices regarding the disposal of Garden Chemicals.

Hedge clippings

-you can put your hedge clippings in to your Brown Bin , where they will be sent for composting.
-alternatively you can request your own home composter from the Council or bring any extra garden waste to your nearest Recycling Centre .

Hangers (wire)
-please place wire hangers in your Household Residual Waste Bin.

Jars

Junk Mail
-the paper from junk mail can be recycled by placing it in to your Blue Bin .
-you can stop receiving Junk Mail by contacting the Mailing Preference Service on 0845 703 34599. Visit www.mpsonline.org.uk for further details.

Kitchen Units
-if you are using a contractor to replace your old kitchen they should organise the removal of the old units. The Council can uplift kitchen units for a small fee.

Kitchen Waste
-at present East Ayrshire Council will not accept kitchen waste for composting. Please place all kitchen scraps in to your Household Residual Waste Bin.

Leaflets
-these can be put in to your Blue Bin for recycling.They can also be taken to the paper banks at your Local Recycling Point or Recycling Centre.

Leaves
-compost leaves by putting them into your Brown Bin . These can also be put into your own composter or taken to your nearest Recycling Centre .

Light Bulbs
-please place these into your Household Residual Waste Bin.

Mobile phones
-resell using the free ads in the local press or many large retailers have take back schemes in operation.

Margarine Tubs
-please place these into your Household Residual Waste Bin .

Mattress
-please contact the Council for a Special Uplift .

Mirror
-these cannot be put in your Black Kerbside Box, please put mirrors in to your Household Residual Waste Bin .

Newspapers
-these can be put into your Blue Bin for recycling. Any surplus can be taken to your Local Recycling Point or nearest Recycling Centre and placed in the paper bank.

Nappies
-disposable nappies can cause considerable harm to the environment. As an alternative purchase reusable nappies or join a nappy laundering service. Contact Cleansing for further information.
- please put disposable nappies into your Household Residual Waste Bin .

Oil (engine)

-all engine oil should be recycled at one of the Councils Recycling Centre at Western Road, Kilmarnock.

Oil (cooking)
-all cooking oil can be taken to the Recycling Centre at Western Road for recycling. Cooking oils is transformed intio biodiesel which is then used to fuel Stagecoach's Bio Buses.

Plastic bottles
-the Kerbside Recycling service does not yet allow for plastic bottles to be included. However, you can now recycle PET and HDPE plastic, (such as milk bottles, fizzy juice bottles and water bottles) at your nearest Recycling Centre or Local Recycling Point.

Plastic carrier bags
-the Kerbside Recycling service does not yet allow for plastic carrier bags to be included. However, you can now recycle carrier bags at your nearest Recycling Centre or Local Recycling Point.

Packaging
-please use your Household Residual Waste Bin or take any oversized packaging to your nearest Recycling Centre .

Polystyrene
-please place polystyrene in to your Household Residual Waste Bin . Anything too large for your bin can be taken to your nearest Recycling Centre.

Printer Cartridges
- there are a number of charities that collect used print cartridges for recycling.

Reading Glasses
-worn spectacles can be sent to Vision Aid Overseas, 12 The Bell Centre, Newton Road , Manor Royal, Crawley , RH10 2FZ . Vision Aid is an organisation that will send unwanted spectacles to developing countries for reuse.

Sink

-please contact Environmental Health for further information on the disposal of solvents.

Toys
-resell using the free ads in the local press or at car boot sales.

Tumble drier
- all redundant white goods should be recycled. Takes these to your nearest Recycling Centre or use the Councils Special Uplift service.

Take Away Containers
-these not be recycled by using your Black Kerbside Box, instead please put these in to your Household Residual Waste Bin.

Tea Bags
-please put these in to your Household Residual Waste Bin .

Telephones
-British Telecom recycles approximately 4.5 million telephones every year, melting down the plastic for reuse and recycling the electrical components to make new phones.
- contact British Telecom on 0800 800 150 to order a jiffy bag to send back your unwanted telephones. (BT models only)
-all other redundant phones should be put in your Household Residual Waste Bin.

Television
-you can take your Television to your nearest Recycling Centre or contact Cleansing Services for a Special Uplift .

Tyres
-do not burn tyres! This causes toxic chemicals to be released. Take tyres to your nearest Recycling Centre.

Vacuum Cleaners
-broken vacuum cleaners can be taken to your nearest Recycling Centre.

Vegetable Peelings
-East Ayrshire Council is currently not accepting vegetable peelings for composting. Therefore please use your Household Residual Waste Bin for disposal.

Videos
-most charity shops welcome donations of this item. Unwanted CD's and plastic cases can be sent to Polymer Reprocessors Ltd, Stephen Power, Reeds Lane , Moreton, Wirral , CH46 1DW .

Washing Machines
-all redundant white goods should be recycled. Take these to your nearest Recycling Centre or contact the Council for a Special Uplift.

Weeds
-these can be put in to your Brown Bin for composting.

Windows/Plate Glass
-please place this in to your Household Residual Waste Bin . If you are limited by the size please take it to your nearest Recycling Centre. Contractors should remove all waste material if new windows are being installed.

Wine Bottles
-please place these in to your Black Kerbside Box for recycling. Please remove all lids first.

Wood Chips
-these can be put in your Brown Bin for composting. However, do not fill the bin as it will become too heavy to lift and empty.

Yellow Pages
