Black Recycling Box
The Black box is collected every two weeks. See Collection Days for more information.
Your Black box is for recycling all your glass and cans. This includes:
Glass Bottles – remove lids
Jam Jars – remove lids
Sauce Jars – remove lids
Drink Cans
Pet Food Tins
Soup Tins
The glass and cans should be free of food residue. As the box is sitting for a two week period, please rinse your glass and cans out before placing them in your box. It is not necessary to remove the labels from your food cans.
Please DO NOT place the following in your Black box:
Plastic Bags
Broken Glass
Pyrex
Drinking Glasses
Glass Dishes
Mirrors
These cannot be recycled in the same process and should be disposed of in your normal household refuse bin.
If the wrong items are placed in your Black box, it may not be collected. If this happens a contamination sticker will be placed on your box with a contact number to call. Once the contaminant is removed please call the number to arrange for your bin to be emptied.
Extra Black boxes are available free of charge to households that dispose of a greater volume of glass and cans.
Please contact the Recycling Helpline to discuss your requirements.
Lids are also available free of charge from Cleansing offices at Western Road Kilmarnock and Council Offices Lugar.
