What should I NOT put in to my Black Box?

Broken glass
Drinking glasses
Mirrors
Pyrex
Plastic bags
Bottle/jar tops, corks and lids

When will my Black Box be uplifted?
Black boxes will be serviced every 2 weeks, on the same day as either your blue or brown bin.
Contact Cleansing Services to find out your own specific day.

What happens if my Black Box is full before my collection day?
You can take the extra glass & cans to your nearest Recycling Centre or Local Recycling Point. You may purchase a second Black Recycling Box.
Contact Cleansing Services for further information.

Can I place out extra bags as side waste?
Side waste will no longer be uplifted. You can take any excess waste to one of the Council's Recycling Centres or Local Recycling Points.

How is the glass from the Black Box separated?
This is done by the crew at the kerbside. The collection vehicle has compartments which will take the different colours of glass.

What happens to the glass once it has been collected?
The glass is recycled into new bottles and jars. This saves significant amounts of energy.

Do I need to remove the labels from my food cans?
No! We do not require you to remove the labels from your food cans.

What do I do with the lids from tins?
I f you can push the lid back in to the can then please do that. If you cannot manage this, then simply put it in to your normal household bin.

Do I need to wash my glass and cans out?
To prevent any odours coming from your Black Box over the 2 week collection period, we suggest that you simply rinse out any food or drink residue. You do not need to scrub them clean.

Can I get a lid for my Black Box?
You can collect a lid free of charge from the Cleansing Services office at the Depot on Western Road Kilmarnock.

Can I receive an extra Black Box?
If you regularly produce more glass and can waste, you can request a second Black Box.
Please contact Cleansing Services for more information.
