ADDITIONAL SUPPORT NEED CLUBS

Leisure Development aims to provide a range of opportunities for children and young people aged 5 - 18 years with additional support needs to become more active, more often both within the school setting and in the community.

School based sessions

Each academic year, each of the four special schools within East Ayrshire has the opportunity to work with the Health and Activity Motivator (Learning Disabilities) for two 6 week blocks.

First block
The first block of sessions are aimed at the younger primary section of the school and focus on "play" activities using equipment such as the parachute and the earth ball. The aim of the sessions is to encourage the children to enjoy phyiscal activity as well as developing basic motor skills. The block ends with a "Play Day" where there is a bouncy castle, face painting and general fun activities.

Second block
The second block of sessions are aimed at the older section of the school and focus on sport activities such as shinty, football and basketball. The end of this block of sessions coincides with the Ayrshire Special Games where the children and young people take part in a range of sport activities with other children and young people with additional support needs from across Ayrshire.
