Living OUR AREA Kilmaurs

Kilmaurs, 2 miles north of Kilmarnock, boasts a church dating from 1170 and received its charter as a burgh of barony in 1527. The chief industry in the 19^th and early 20^th centuries was hosiery, but there were also coalmines in the neighbourhood. 

Since the 1960’s the village expanded as a dormitory suburb of Kilmarnock, though many people now also commute to Glasgow. It has a population of 2,764.
