LIBRARY, REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION SERVICES

Young People's Services - What's available?

We offer a range of resources tailored for children and young adults. These include:

  Board Books - ideal for babies and toddlers because they are hard wearing with bright pictures and simple language.
  Picture Books - aimed at pre-school children and infants, they are ideal for storytelling and language development.
  Young Reader - perfect for those who are ready to move on to more independent reading. Pictures are still included, the print is quite large and the text fairly simple.
  Information Books - cover a wide range of subjects and are good for homework and hobbies.
  Graphic Novels - like comics young people can follow the adventures of Batman, Superman and Buffy the vampire Slayer with these.
  Young Adult Fiction - for older readers and often deal with topics of interest to this age group.
  CD Roms - available for use in all our libraries. They are ideal for homework or simply for fun
  Talking Books - stories or songs on audio cassette.
  Videos -available at the Dick Institute, Auchinleck, Cumnock, Crosshouse, Dalrymple, Drongan, Hurlford, Kilmaurs, Muirkirk, Netherthird, Newmilns, New Cumnock and Ochiltree Community Libraries. There is a charge made for this service.
  Playstation Games - available at Dalrymple and Galston Community Libraries. There is a charge made for this service.
  DVDs - can be hired from the Dick Institute and Cumnock Community Library. There is a charge made for this service.

If your local library doesn't have the item that you are looking for in stock it is very easy to place a request for the item. Simply fill in a request card with your details plus those of the item and we will try to get it for you.
