Heritage - Special Collections
The Buchanan Bequest
Donated by the Buchanan Family from their former home, Bellfield
House, the collection contains over 100 titles, dating from 1759 to 1856,
which can be found in the Ayrshire Collection at the Dick Institute. The
Museum Service also has a number of items from the Buchanan Bequest.
Types of materials and subjects include -

- dictionaries, reference works, periodicals
- general literature, poetry& theology
- history
- industry, agriculture & natural history
- travel, topography & illustrated works
The Braidwood Collection
This collection of over 50 titles is made up of mainly religious
texts although there are a few poetry and reference works. The collection
is housed at the Dick Institute as part of the Ayrshire Collection.
The Burns Collection
The collection contains works by Scotland's National Bard and
books about him and Burn's country. There are a number of foreign translations
of his works. Collections are housed in both the Dick and Baird Institutes.

Scottish Fiction Reserve:
The Galt Collection and McIlvanney Collection
As part of our commitment to maintaining a Scottish Fiction Reserve
we are committed to collecting works by and about John Galt and William
McIlvanney. Both these collections form part of the Ayrshire Collection
at the Dick Institute.
In the Galt Collection works include Annals of the
Parish, Last of the Lairds, The Provost, Life of Lord Byron, Life of Benjamin
West and Dawn of Destiny and Other Poems.
William McIlvanney's works include A Gift of Nessus, Remedy is None,
Docherty, The Papers of Tony Vietch and Laidlaw.
The Keir Hardie Collection
Housed within the Baird Institute, this collection contains works
about James Keir Hardie.
Through the Museum Service access can also be provided to the Keir Hardie
Collection which was gifted by the Keir Hardie Family to the Baird Institute.
