Founded
in 1997 the Society aims to promote family history in general and in East
Ayrshire in particular. Meetings are held on the second Thursday of each
month - from September to May - in the Gateway Centre, Foregate
Kilmarnock (next to the bus station) from 7.30pm-9.30pm.

The
GROS holds records covering all of Scotland. These include all the BDM
certificates 1855 to date, Census 1841-1901, OPR 1553-1854. If you visit
GRO it costs £17 per day (as at October 2002) and for that you can
take details of as many certificates as possible during the time available.

This Website is pay-per-view and includes indexes for the 1881-1901 Census,
indexes of births/baptisms 1553-1901 (from OPR and statutory records),
deaths 1855-1951 (from statutory records) and marriages/proclamations
1553-1926 (from OPR and statutory records). For some of this material
they hold digital images which you can either download or print out. They
aim to digitise all the census returns (1841-1901) and the OPR (1553-1854)
for all of Scotland so you should visit the Website regularly for recent
additions.

Park Circus has a direct computer link to GRO in Edinburgh. It holds all
the BDM certificates for the former Strathclyde area (Ayrshire, Argyll,
Bute, Dunbartonshire, Lanarkshire and Renfrewshire) from 1855 to 1992,
together with the census 1841-1901, and OPR for the same area. If you
visit it costs £13 per day (as at October 2002) and for that you
can take details of as many certificates as possible during the time available.

but can be located by contacting the National Archives of Scotland.
Association of Scottish

is open to experienced and well qualified professional searchers. The
ASGRA research begins at a basic rate of £16 per hour but fees will depend
