LIBRARY, REGISTRATION AND INFORMATION SERVICES

Library Regulations

JOINING THE LIBRARY
Applications for membership must be accompanied by 2 forms of identification (ask staff for details).

BORROWING, RETURNING AND RENEWING ITEMS
Your library card enables you to borrow and return items at any East Ayrshire Library.
If you are unable to return items you can telephone your local library or renew items on-line using the online library catalogue.
All audio-visual hire charges must be paid for when borrowing items.
East Ayrshire Library, Registration and Information Services cannot accept responsibility for any damage caused to any equipment by use of any audio-visual materials.
Items can be reserved, a small charge is made for this service.

LIBRARY FINES
Fines will be charged on all items borrowed (excluding children borrowing books) which are returned late. Non-payment of fines may lead to suspension from borrowing. Reminders are sent out when items are 3 weeks overdue.
Fines for overdue items will be advised on their return and must be paid within 2 calendar months.

LOSING YOUR CARD
If you lose your library card please let the staff know immediately. There will be a small charge for a replacement card.

CARE OF LIBRARY PROPERTY
Please take care of library property and ensure that books are returned clean and in good condition. Report any dirty or damaged items to the staff especially before you borrow them.
Please take care of Cassettes, CDs, Videos and DVDs. Only handle CDs and DVDs by the edges. Rewind all tapes to the beginning after use so that they are ready for the next users. Please report any faults to staff.
Lost or damaged items will be charged at full replacement cost.
If a borrower has not paid for a lost/damaged item, borrowing rights may be suspended.

CHILDREN USING THE LIBRARY
Library staff are not responsible for children in the library and parents/ carers are asked to accompany children under 8 years to ensure their safety.
Children aged 9 and over may be left unattended, at the discretion of a responsible adult.
East Ayrshire Library, Registration and Information Services supports the Education Department's anti-truancy initiative and therefore, school-aged children are not permitted to use libraries during school hours in term time unless accompanied by an adult.

PERSONAL BELONGINGS
East Ayrshire Library, Registration and Information Services is not responsible for your personal belongings so please look after them.

GENERAL BEHAVIOUR
We want you to enjoy your visit to the library but please be considerate of others.
Certain areas of libraries or certain times at libraries are designated quite spaces/times. Please ask staff for details.
Mobile phones and personal stereos should not be used where they are likely to disturb others. Only battery operated laptop computers may be used in the library.
Eating and drinking, (except in designated areas) are not allowed in the library.
Smoking is not permitted anywhere within the library.
Sleeping is not permitted anywhere within the library.
Anti-social behaviour can result in the suspension or cancellation of library membership and may lead to prosecution.
Theft of any items from library premises may lead to prosecution.

ANIMALS IN THE LIBRARY
Guide dogs are the only animals allowed in the library.

REFERENCE SERVICES
Reference items can only be used in the library. (This includes newspapers).
