Finding Information
Planning is the key to a successful search for information. It helps
you decide what kind of information you need, where to look and the usefulness
of what you find.
When you are searching the Internet, CD-ROMs, looking up books or interviewing
someone it is important to:
- be specific about what you want to know - make a list of questions
you want answered.
- list the keywords in your question - remember to think about general,
specific and alternative words. They will help if you find too much
or too little information.
- decide how you will record your findings - will you take notes, copy
onto a floppy disk, use printouts or photocopies? Always remember to
record where you got the information.
- be critical of what you find - does it answer your question? Is the
source reliable and up-to-date?
