FOOD SAFETY - EatSafe Awards

EatSafe Awards

Three local catering establishments have just been awarded EatSafe awards by the Council for having hygiene standards above and beyond those required by current legislation.

At a small ceremony held last week, the Provost presented the awards to

Lochside House Hotel, New Cumnock;

Chip Box, Stewarton

Ocean Star, Newmilns.

The local member for each of the establishments attended, as did Bill Stafford, Executive Director of Neighbourhood Services.

The three caterers, together with representatives of the Council, attended a Scotland wide Civic Reception hosted by the Food Standards Agency in Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, where the Deputy Minister for Health and Community Care, Lewis Macdonald MSP, presented them with their awards..

It is worthy of note that the Ocean Star in Newmilns is the first Ethnic business in Scotland to be given this award.

EatSafe is a new scheme designed to promote excellence in Food Safety and is being administered by Local Authorities in conjunction with the Food Standards Agency throughout Scotland and Northern Ireland. Initially, the award is limited to catering premises to which the public have access

The awards are seen as a reward for those businesses which have taken our advice in implementing a Food Safety Management Systems within their premises. This coupled with the other criteria of advanced training for staff and compliance with structural requirements within their premises mean that they are now operating hygiene standards over and above the present legal requirements
The operators of these businesses have all participated in Seminars and training courses in “CookSafe” and have accepted the offer of mentoring through the system by a member of our staff.. The awards are strictly controlled by the Environmental Health Service and if in the future standards drop then the award can be removed.
