Governance and Scrutiny Committee seeks Suggestions
The Governance and Scrutiny Committee’s main focus is to monitor the Council’s activities and it has overall responsibility for scrutiny and review of performance. An important part of the Committee's work is to review service areas. The Committee holds a workshop in January each year to consider topic suggestions for possible review which are gathered from a number of sources, including Councillors, stakeholders, officers and the general public. The topic reviews agreed at the workshop are then included in the Committee's work programme for the coming year. Suggestions for topics for review from members of the public or community groups are welcome and if you or your group would like to suggest a topic which could be considered for review you should use the Topic Suggestion Form. The completed form should be submitted no later than 24 December 2009. >>>More Info

Watch out! Bogles about! Halloween is Fri 30th October
Halloween this year is on Friday 30th October. Did you know that in Kilmarnock Halloween is traditionally celebrated on the last Friday of October, whether or not this is the 31st. This tradition is thought to originate in the town’s industrial past, when factory workers would be paid on a Friday and could therefore afford to splash out on celebratory confections. >>>More Info

Tyre Safety Month – October 2009
tyresafe.org
Tyres are the only part of the vehicle which are in contact with the road. Safety in acceleration, braking, steering and cornering all depend on a relatively small area of road contact. It is therefore of paramount importance that tyres are well maintained and that their tyre tread depth is above the legal limit to maximise performance and safety. By law, car tyres must have a minimum of 1.6mm of tread in a continuous band throughout the central three-quarters of the tread width and round the entire circumference of the tyre. >>>More Info
