Building standards

The Building Standards Service is responsible for administering legislation controlling the erection, demolition, conversion, extension and alteration of buildings in order to safeguard the health and safety of people who use or are around the building. It also has an input into the enforcement of the Licensing (Scotland) Act 1976 and the Safety of Sport Grounds Act 1975.

We are committed to providing good customer service and have developed a Building Standards Charter which you can download from the 'Further Information' section. This sets out the standard of service you can expect from us.

Our surveyors are responsible for examining plans and proposals for compliance with technical standards, as well as assessing and initiating action to deal with emergencies under the Dangerous Buildings Procedure. We also have a Disability Awareness Advisor who specialises in accessibility and inclusive design and supports the two Access Panels within East Ayrshire.

Building standards register

As verifiers in terms of Section 24 of the Building (Scotland) Act 2003, we are required to maintain a register of Building Warrants, Completion Certificates and Enforcement Notices.

The Building Standards Register is split into two parts. Part I of the Building Standards Register specifically contains property data and is available under the 'External Links' section, with Part II containing supporting documents, specification and plans which has limited access to interested parties only.
