Farmers must ensure accurate records are kept and that animals are correctly identified and fed satisfactorily.  Our Animal Health and Welfare Officer, employed by Trading Standards, visits farms regularly to provide guidance on a variety of animal health topics including farm records and welfare issues. 

Our officer works closely with  Scottish Government Animal Health Veterinary Officers to improve conditions on farms for animals. When necessary this service assists the Scottish Government to control the spread of contagious diseases such as Anthrax and Foot & Mouth.

Trading Standards deal with farmed animals whilst the SSPCA deal with companion animals such as dogs, cats and horses.
