Brown bin
From Monday 12 March 2012, garden waste collections will resume throughout East Ayrshire. The brown bin collection days are listed on the recycling calendar. This service does not have to be booked with Cleansing Services.
The brown bin is for recycling garden waste and is collected every four weeks.
You can place the following items in your brown bin:
-
grass cuttings
-
hedge trimmings
-
leaves
-
weeds
-
plants
-
twigs
-
chipped wood/bark
-
sawdust
-
flowers
All this garden waste is collected and turned into compost which is available to residents through the compost to go scheme - see details under further information.
Please do not place the following in your brown bin:
-
food waste
-
plastic bags
-
animal waste
-
pet hutch waste
These cannot be composted and should be disposed of in your normal household refuse bin.
Soil and rubble should be taken to your nearest recycling centre as it is too heavy for a normal household refuse bin.
If the wrong items are placed in a brown bin, it may not be collected. If this happens a contamination sticker will be placed on the bin lid with a contact number to call. Once the contaminant is removed please call the number to arrange for the bin to be emptied.
Extra brown bins are available free of charge to households that dispose of a greater volume of garden material. Please contact us to discuss your requirements. Alternatively, you may wish to make your own compost for use in your garden, more information is available on home composting under further information.
If you do not have a garden which produces organic garden waste, you do not have to accept a brown bin.
