Invigor8 will reduce risk of falls in East Ayrshire

28/03/2012 09:45:00

East Ayrshire Council’s Leisure Development Section, in partnership with NHS Ayrshire and Arran, is set to Invigor8 the over 65’s with the launch of a new initiative.

Around one in three people over the age of 65 will have a fall this year and many will result in hospital treatment. In an attempt to lower this number a new free programme – Invigor8 – will be launched in April. The community based exercise programme will include classes, led by highly trained and experience instructors, incorporating endurance, strength and balance training and designed to help people reduce the chances of a fall.

The Invigor8 programme will run for 50 weeks, with five weekly classes being delivered across East Ayrshire. It will suitable for people who have previously had a fall, are fearful of falls, those who feel unstable on their feet, or have osteoporosis.

If you would like to find out more about Invigor8 please contact the Community Health Team on 01563 576723.
