Clubbing Together

12 Dec 2011 12:06:00

Kilmarnock Harrier and Athletics Club is setting the pace in Scotland – they are the first club to join the Club Together Partnership Project.

Club Together is an important part of Club Legacy 2014 – Scotland’s National Club Development programme for athletics which supports the development of athletics clubs throughout the country. The project funds a paid part-time position within the Harriers to help drive the implementation of their development plan and provide support to the club as a whole.

Allison Simpson, Regional Development Manager from Scottish Athletics, said: “The role will have a significant impact on the growth and development of the club and the twin aspects of our vision of increasing participation and performance sit at the heart of everything we do – neither however is possible without athletics clubs playing their part. This club is fully committed to their future development and long-term planning and ready to embrace positive change and that is why we are investing in them.”

Councillor Kathy Morrice, Spokesperson for Improving Community Wellbeing for East Ayrshire Council said: “East Ayrshire Council recognises the benefits of partnership working and the positive results that taking a collaborative approach can achieve. We fully support Scottishathletics National Club Development Programme and our investment is testament to East Ayrshire’s continued commitment to athletics. This new position has come at an exciting time for athletics within East Ayrshire, with the new athletics facility opening in spring 2012. It is anticipated that the investment in the Club Together position will further strengthen the infrastructure of athletics throughout the authority.”

Jim Young, President of Kilmarnock Harrier and Athletics Club, said: “This part time post (15 hours per week) is funded through a partnership between Kilmarnock Harrier and Athletics Club, scottishathletics and East Ayrshire Council. ClubTogether is exactly that – clubs, scottishathletics and a Local Authority coming together to deliver, once and for all, a programme that will make the athletics vision happen.”
