Best value and performance

Local authorities in Scotland must, by law, demonstrate best value when delivering their services. They must also show continuous improvement. The Council's Best Value and Performance Section is responsible for performance management issues and the Council's best value programme.

Work in this area is closely linked to the Scottish Government's Best Value and Community Planning (BV&CP) audits. Further guidance on performance management issues is produced by Audit Scotland.

The next generation of BV&CP Audits was developed towards the end of 2009. East Ayrshire Council worked in partnership with Audit Scotland to develop this new framework.

There are four strands to delivering best value and improving performance:

  • Reporting to the Scottish Government
  • Best Value
  • Planning and delivering services
  • Performance management
