Equality and diversity
Our core values are Quality, Equality, Access and Partnership. Central to these values is a commitment to combating all forms of discrimination and promoting equality of opportunity.
We will prevent discrimination against service users and employees as set out under the Equality Act 2010 in respect of: age, disability, gender reassignment, race, religion and belief, sex, sexual orientation, marriage and civil partnership and pregnancy and maternity.
We have published equality schemes for race, disability and gender which state how we will fulfil our commitment to promoting equality of opportunity, eliminating discrimination and promoting good relations between communities.
To support these objectives and importantly to put in place effective consultation and involvement structures we have developed external networks to help assist in mainstreaming equality into Council practice. The three networks currently cover race, disability and older people.
We also support a Disabled Consultative Employee Forum which meet quarterly to discuss information and share best practice.
We are also working to develop a Women’s network and a Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) network to ensure that the services we offer meet the needs of all our communities.
