Access panels

In 1981, the Secretary of State for Scotland recommended that each local authority nominate an Access Officer and encourage the setting up of an Access Panel with the purpose of improving disabled people’s access to the built environment. Since then Access Panels have been set up across many local authority areas in Scotland.

The key function of Access Panels is to improve people's access to the built environment.  East Ayrshire Council supports two Access Panels, one in the South of the authority and one in the North.

Cumnock and Doon Valley Access Panel

Cumnock and Doon Valley Access Panel have been in existence for more than 15 years.  The Panel meet on the first Tuesday of each month from September until June (excluding January).  The Panel usually meet in Cumnock Town Hall, however the location of the meetings can vary throughout the Cumnock and Doon Valley area; for example Drongan or Dalmellington.  The Panel meet to discuss access issues within the Cumnock and Doon Valley and also review planning and building warrant applications submitted to East Ayrshire Council.

East Ayrshire North Access Panel

East Ayrshire North Access Panel meet bi-monthly to discuss access issues at their regular monthly meetings and also separately at monthly planning meetings where they review planning and building warrant applications submitted to East Ayrshire Council.
