Emergency planning
All local authorities are faced with the prospect of responding to a civil emergency at any time and must have appropriate plans in place.
In 2008 East, North and South Ayrshire Councils combined their emergency planning teams to form the the Ayrshire Civil Contingencies Team. Based at Prestwick Airport the team are prepared to respond to any major incident or emergency situation.
The main threats which the team have identified are:

They are also prepared for:
The team have established plans and procedures which set out how they will respond to an emergency situation. These include:

civil emergency plan and directory

flood response plan
-
rest centre emergency procedures
-
contingency plans covering pandemic flu, rabies, foot and mouth
One of their major roles in an emergency is to act as a coordinator, with external partners, and in preparation for this the team liaises regularly with the three Councils, the Health Board, Emergency Services and voluntary agencies.
